More people are turning to Tallow for skincare and with it has come a flurry of myths and misconceptions surrounding its use. In this article we are going to go over the five most common myths about using tallow for skincare and how using it yourself could be a great addition or alternative to your current skincare routine.
First let’s make it clear what tallow is.
Tallow is derived from rendered animal fat. In the case of Arvoti it’s from local grass fed, hormone & antibiotic-free cattle. This rendered animal fat (Tallow) can be applied on both the face and body as a skincare solution.
Myth #1 Tallow is too greasy for skincare
This is one of the most common myths about tallow. Understandably you would think rubbing beef fat on your skin would make for a greasy stinky mess but that’s actually far from the truth.
When properly rendered tallow doesn’t have a beefy smell to it and while tallow can feel greasy at times it’s often due to overuse of the product by applying too much to the skin (a little goes a long way). You see tallow actually has a makeup that mimics our own skins natural oil production allowing tallow to be easily absorbed. This leaves skin feeling smooth and hydrated, not greasy and messy.
Myth #2 Tallow Is Only For Dry Skin
The truth to this one is that tallow works great for ALL skin types. From oily, acne prone skin to dry, sensitive skin tallow can provide a wonderful addition to your skincare routine. This is also supported by the countless testimonials we have gotten on our Arvoti Tallow Skincare Products that highlight various skin types.

Myth #3 Tallow For Skincare is Outdated and Inferior
There’s no shortage of skincare products on the market. However, many modern skincare products can house chemicals such as phthalates which are endocrine disruptors linked to hormone disruption, reproductive issues and even birth defects. These are often found in the fragrances added to skincare products. Other skincare products can also contain parabens which are preservatives added to the product that mimic estrogen that can potentially disrupt hormone balances.
There’s a slew of lab-made, chemical and synthetic additives found in most modern and mainstream skincare products.
It’s clear to see why many people are replacing their all modern skincare products with all natural tallow balm.
Myth #4 Tallow Causes Acne and Breakouts
With high-quality, properly rendered tallow can benefit the skin by providing it with essential fatty acids and vitamins. Tallow is rich with A,D,E and K which play key roles in your skins health and generation. Tallow also has a composition that is very similar to our own natural oil. This leads to locking in moisture in the skin barrier without clogging pores, even for those with oily skin!
Tallow also has niacin, a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and acne over time.
Myth #5 Tallow Is Not Suitable For Sensitive Skin
If you have sensitive skin you know what a challenge it can be to try anything new. Seeking modern, carefully formulated products that cater to sensitive skin is understandable but oftentimes these products only mask the problem.
Tallow is naturally rich in vitamins, A, D, E and K, nourishing skin deeply, promoting health and balance with irritation. Providing these essential nutrients to the skin, tallow can combat the root causes of dry or damaged skin, supporting regeneration and repair. The calming and smoothing properties make tallow perfect for individuals with sensitive skin such as eczema or psoriasis.
